Achieving stylistic integrity of a choral work requires looking beyond basic notes and rhythms to make informed, intentional choices. In this reading session, we will explore six distinct pieces, examining the elements that shape an authentic interpretation, rehearsal, and performance experience for our musicians. Sing through each work while identifying the specific performance practices that preserve a piece’s authentic voice-from tone color and placement to historical and cultural practice.

This reading session will focus on learning new teaching tools to make the music of Show choirs, TTBB choirs, and Jazz a cappella choirs more accessible. Each area will present several teaching tools and two pieces for our reading session: one tried-and-true piece that every singer should learn, and one new piece.
